Geography answers

Note to TESLians ; This post has nothing to do with English; it is just a medium for me to provide the answers to the question paper that I gave to my Geography students. Sorry :)

Note to Geography students : Here are the answers and all the best!

Section A

1) D
2) C
3) A
4) B
5) C

Section B

6 (a) Two. Dormant and Active volcanoes
(b) A volcano that has not erupted for a long time
(c) They are located along the north-western to south-eastern part of the island. This area concides with the Pacific Ring of Fire.
(OR) this section is where the plate boundaries lie.

(d) Only half of the island comes under Indonesia or the international border cuts through half the island.

7 (a) Areas B and D. These are areas of low temperatures where freezing of water may take place in cracks of rocks.

(b) Area A. It is an area of high temperature and low rainfall which means it is hot and dry.

(c) Sahara desert (orr any other hot desert).

Section C

8 (a) i. Lava is the molten rock (magma) that escapes to the Earth’s surface whereas magma is the molten rock beneath the Earth.

ii. A plain is a flat or gently-sloping area and a valley is a low area between hills or mountains.

(b) Some of the plains form valuable farmlands and settlement sites for people. However, some low-lying plains can be prone to flooding. An example includes the North China Plain.

(c) i. Low rainfall because the land is dry and bare with little vegetaion.

ii. Erosion.

iii. Weathering: the changes in temperatures would mean that the outer layers of the rocks would expand and contract causing the rocks to break down (EXFOLIATION).
Wind and water erosion: the area appears to be dry which means that wind erosion is likely to be dominant. The wind carrying the rock particles produces a sand blasting effect and wears away the rock surfaces. The valleys could have been eroded by running water in the past when the climate was wetter.

All the best and good luck!
*I would suggest the Sunday class students taking June O’Level to come next Friday 8.30am-11.30am to prepare for Geo paper 2. However, it is up to you. :)

Regards,
Miss Flo

There’s still hope!

November 20, 2009 15 comments

okay now, don’t panic! yes the exam date for EL3219 has been moved forward to the 24th BUT I’ve talked to Alistair and he has agreed to move it back to the initial date…

Cani ceritanya…

Elgar has to attend a  seminar on the 25th so she has asked Alistair to change the exam date for EL3219. Thus, Alistair went to the Exam department and he thought that they would inform him before they finalised the exam date so that he could consult us regarding the new date. Unfortunately, according to him, he was not informed and he only knew about it yesterday when I went to see him…before that, I’ve searched high and low for Elgar (a bit exaggerated but bepaluh jua) and managed to talk to her and seek her approval to move the exam to its initial date :)

So now, we just have to wait till tomorrow and see what the exam people are going to do about it huhu
