Instruction:

Write a 1500-word essay in which you analyse a text of any type from the point of view of one pragmatic model or standpoint, e.g. Speech Act Theory, Gricean Maxims, Relevance Theory, any Politeness Theory etc.

The text can be of any length, but do not make it too long or too short, or you will either get bogged down or won’t find anything to say. It can be of any type, written or spoken, but should be an authentic text, not one written by you. If you are unsure about either the text or what to do with it, bring it along to me and ask.

As we did not finish the lecture yesterday because we missed the
Monday class, we are a bit behind.  So I don’t think it makes much
sense to have the tutorials on this week’s work just yet.  So I
propose to have a lecture tomorrow instead of the tutorials.  However,
I don’t want to give the lecture 3 times obviously.  What time would
be better for you to have the lecture, 9.00, 10.10 or 11.10?  Is there
any time some people cannot make it?  If there is such a time please
tell me and I will schedule the lecture for one of the other slots.

Today’s our dearest Datin BK’s birthday. Let’s wish her a very Happy Birthday! I know, I know you ain’t young anymore but it’s ok. Age is just a number. Welcome to the club! Well, not my club obviously. I’m still 16 ok. xp

I have posted an event invite in Facebook and have invites all of you guys to RSVP to the TESL Picnic, Take 3!

As mentioned, the picnic will be held on the 30th of July, this Thursday and I do hope you all could make it.

The picnic is POTLUCK so bringing food and drinks to share is the whole idea here.

The picnic will be at Muara Beach at 11.00 a.m.

Oh, the exact place / pondok has not yet confirmed but if I will try and get there early -ish (with Michelle in tow if I would be conveying with her.) to get the nearest pondok with pretty view, near to the beach and the parking lot. I saw a small padang bola there so you may want to bring some toys along to play with, if you wish

BAWA BAJU AND TOWELS!

Hi ya’ll, I’ve been checking the ubd website for updates on the timetable, yes, I’ve been getting pretty jobless lately ever since the holidays are coming to a tragic-yet-somehow-secretly-quite-anticipated end, maybe because I’m eager to start using my brain in a productive way again but I’m digressing! Anyway last week it was just a draft and now it’s updated. It’s probably gonna be changed again nanti but if you wanna get an “idea” you should check it out

For those yang don’t know the course titles for the codes (or just a tad lazy to refer back) since the timetable only shows codes, here’s the list:

EL 3219 – LANGUAGE COURSE DESIGN AND ASSESSMENT

EL 3404 – ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

EL 3216 – INTRODUCTION TO NEW LITERATURES IN ENGLISH

EL 3220 – SEMANTICS AND PRAGMATICS

EL 3218 – LANGUAGE, CULTURE AND THE CLASSROOM

EL 3402 – FUNCTIONAL SYSTEMIC GRAMMAR

UPDATE # 1

I think it is clear that a beach barbeque is the best thing to do rather than meeting up at JP or barbeque at someone’s place… or bowling. ( I went to JP today, hoping for a better state of the park. Its getting there…)

Anyway, I think Muara beach is quite alright and is a fun place to go to (because last time was a success AND everyone enjoyed it. Plus, there won’t be as many sandflies there as Berakas). Any other suggestions will be considered. The confirmation will be due to the majority vote

I guess a potluck would be a great idea too. Everyone bringing their own food to share. 

And I’ve solve the problem on whoever wanted to bring raw food. “Cemana tah kan menyalai, inda kan sorang saja semua untuk salai, yada yada.“

Okay, here’s the deal. Whoever wants to bring anything to salai, TELL US A.S.A.P so that those who wont be bringing food or drinks can contribute something to help, for example, the grill or the arang… all those barbeque stuffs

Easy peasy lemon cheesy, eh?

I’m really excited now! I can’t wait to meet ALL of you guys in your beach-wear glory.

Oh, IF you want, you could tell us whenever before the barbeque what you’re bringing. Saja, enticing us all, making us seliur awal…

I’ll update more after we decided for sure when is the best to do this barbeque.
