EL3219

There’s still hope!

okay now, don’t panic! yes the exam date for EL3219 has been moved forward to the 24th BUT I’ve talked to Alistair and he has agreed to move it back to the initial date…

Cani ceritanya…

Elgar has to attend a  seminar on the 25th so she has asked Alistair to change the exam date for EL3219. Thus, Alistair went to the Exam department and he thought that they would inform him before they finalised the exam date so that he could consult us regarding the new date. Unfortunately, according to him, he was not informed and he only knew about it yesterday when I went to see him…before that, I’ve searched high and low for Elgar (a bit exaggerated but bepaluh jua) and managed to talk to her and seek her approval to move the exam to its initial date :)

So now, we just have to wait till tomorrow and see what the exam people are going to do about it huhu

EL3220 (Semantic and Pragmatics Assignment)

SEMANTICS AND PRAGMATICS

EL3220

ASSIGNMENT

DR. ALISTAIR WOOD

DEADLINE: 7TH NOVEMBER (WEEK 13)

—————————————————

Instruction:

Write a 1500-word essay in which you analyse a text of any type from the point of view of one pragmatic model or standpoint, e.g. Speech Act Theory, Gricean Maxims, Relevance Theory, any Politeness Theory etc.

The text can be of any length, but do not make it too long or too short, or you will either get bogged down or won’t find anything to say. It can be of any type, written or spoken, but should be an authentic text, not one written by you. If you are unsure about either the text or what to do with it, bring it along to me and ask.

Important message from Alistair

Hi guys, since I currently have no credit to text to your cells and since currently not everyone is available on MSN, I had to leave a message here (and in the hope of you guys checking this website before tomorrow, or at least happen to read my MSN nick/pm and/or Facebook status – sorry, I don’t know how else to contact you guys :S), I’m here to pass a message from Alistair cuz he said “nobody seemed to have read the post in our Google Group” (I guess because no one has replied yet). Basically I’ll just paste what he said there in case malas kan log in to our Google Group :p :

Hi guys

As we did not finish the lecture yesterday because we missed the
Monday class, we are a bit behind.  So I don’t think it makes much
sense to have the tutorials on this week’s work just yet.  So I
propose to have a lecture tomorrow instead of the tutorials.  However,
I don’t want to give the lecture 3 times obviously.  What time would
be better for you to have the lecture, 9.00, 10.10 or 11.10?  Is there
any time some people cannot make it?  If there is such a time please
tell me and I will schedule the lecture for one of the other slots.

Please tell the others if you read this, and get back to me asap.

Many thanks,

Alistair

He asked me to inform you guys this because tadi kelurusan ia tejumpa me and jiah. So er yeah, hopefully you guys can get back to me on MSN or facebook or the best way is to just comment here if possible, or wait – even better, respond arah his post in Google Group :D So you guys mau lecture esok what time? Are you guys all free at 11am-12pm? If the majority of us are free, then it should be okay :) Thanks
